We believe the power of design can improve the quality of our lives. With over 20 years of experience, a deep love of art, and an ability to design elevated spaces, Bay Area Interior Designer Stefanie Cannizzo and her team create thoughtful, comfortable and artful spaces that enhance our client's daily lives and make them love where they live.
Some homes tell a story, not just of where a family lives, but how they live. This recently completed remodel is one of those stories. Originally renovated in the early 2000’s, the homeowners were proud of the space they had built and the memories made within its walls. But after devastating water damaged in large portions of the home, they found themselves grieving the loss of not just physical finishes, but of a place they deeply loved.
Our goal as designers wasn’t just to redesign the home as it was, but to help them fall in love again, with a new version.
The kitchen held particular meaning. As passionate cooks and entertainers, this space had to offer more than beauty, it needed to function flawlessly. Every detail was carefully considered with this in mind. From customized cabinetry layouts to durable material choices, the result is a kitchen that works as hard as it wows.
One standout detail? The show-stopping backsplash. The clients fell in love with a translucent stone, which we backlit behind the range to bring out its stunning depth and natural variation. It’s not only a conversation piece, but a quiet reminder that beauty can come from the surprisingly little details.
The home’s traditional bones remained and honoring that character was key. We selected timeless cabinetry colors, redid the floors; selecting a stain that was more neutralized the color palette.
While much of the home leans classic and timeless, the Bonus Room offers space for something bold. The original fireplace had never truly resonated with the homeowners. We made it our goal to make it a true centerpiece. A striking, dramatic stone now anchors the space, transforming it from an afterthought into a work of art. We also updated both the bar off the kitchen and the mini bar in the Bonus Room to reflect the newly elevated aesthetic.
This project is more than just a remodel, it’s a reminder that even in the face of loss, new beginnings can be even better than what came before. With thoughtful design, functionality, and a deep respect for the homeowners’ lifestyle and taste, this home is once again a place they’re proud to call their own.
